Why You Should Wear Orange When Viewing Property During Hunting Season

🍁 Why You Should Wear Orange When Viewing Property During Hunting Season

(…and other things I learned the hard way!)

When you think about being a Realtor, you probably imagine cute outfits, pretty houses, and smooth showings with soft background music.
Well… welcome to Eastern Kentucky, friends — where real estate sometimes comes with cardio, wildlife encounters, and the occasional heart-stopping surprise. 😅

Recently, I was heading out to preview a land listing, and a friend casually said,
“You should wear orange. It’s hunting season.”

And listen… I’m ashamed to admit this, but after almost 13 years in real estate, it had NEVER crossed my mind to throw on an orange vest during hunting season. I might know my market inside and out, but keeping up with hunting calendars? Not so much.

Let’s just say I’m much more likely to pet Bambi than hunt Bambi.

🦺 Step One: The Walmart Run

So before heading to view a property out in the country, I swung by Walmart and grabbed two bright orange vests — one for me and one for Sabrina, who bravely volunteered to come along for the adventure.
Five dollars. The price of safety and style, apparently.

We slipped those neon beauties on and headed for the property like we were on a hunting adventure!

🥵 Step Two: The Driveway That Tried to Kill Me

To reach the house, we had to hike up a driveway that could double as a StairMaster.
By the time I was halfway up, I was questioning every life choice that didn’t involve more cardio.

Real estate: where you can get your steps in AND question the existence of oxygen at the same time.

🐍 Step Three: The Snake Skin Situation

We reached the house (finally), only to find a lovely surprise waiting for us on the steps:
A snake skin.

I do not know where the snake was.
I do not want to know where the snake was.
But I DO know I set a personal record for “Quickest and Highest Jump From The Bottom To The Top Step.”

It’s fine. Everything’s fine. 😅

🦌 But Here’s the Real Point…

As wild as the day felt, I realized something important:

Wearing orange is actually essential when viewing land during hunting season.

You never know who else is in the woods, and blending in is the last thing you want to do.
Even if you’re just walking vacant land or hiking up to a house, being visible keeps everyone safe.

So yes — between the unexpected cardio session, the snake skin surprise, and imagining Bambi’s relatives watching me from the tree line — I felt I had at least one thing fully under control:

I was visible. I was safe. And that $5 vest was worth every penny.

Final Thoughts

There’s never a dull moment in real estate — especially when you’re exploring rural or wooded properties. But that’s part of the adventure!

If you’re planning to look at land during hunting season, take it from me:

  • Wear orange.

  • Bring water.

  • Expect the unexpected.

  • And maybe… just maybe… prepare for a hike up a steep driveway and a slithering surprise.

And if you want someone who’s willing to hike, climb, sweat, dodge wildlife, and boldly rock neon orange for you, I’m your girl. 💚
